Re: Insurance Services Office (ISO) Public Protection Classification (PPC)
In the fall of 2017, Solon Township participated in a survey conducted by Insurance
Service Office (ISO) to determine the Public Protection Classification (PPC) for the
Solon Fire Department. This survey was last completed in 2000 and resulted in a
PPC of: 8/10. Please find rating explanation defined in the attached 2018 Survey.
I am pleased to report that the ISO PPC classification as a result of the most recent
survey produced an improved rating of: 06/10. After completing the survey in the
fall, the evaluator predicted an improved score and indicated the following areas as
possible factors:
- Training
- Target Solutions On-Line Training Program
- Improved documentation and participation
- Mutual Aid Box Alarm System (MABAS )
- Auto aid box alarms providing additional man power
- Auto aid box alarms providing additional water resources
A quote from the 2018 ISO report cover letter says, “The ISO PPC plays an
important role in the underwriting process for insurance companies. In fact,
most U.S. insurers- including the largest ones- use PPC information as part of
their decision making when deciding what business to write, coverage’s to
offer or prices to charge for personal or commercial property insurance.”
In short, the improved ISO PPC may provide insurance premium relief for the
property owners of Solon Township.
